Sioux Falls police arrested Baruti Ndadyo after he allegedly threatened to kill his mother and brother and assaulted a worker on East 12th Street. Authorities say Ndadyo was caught going through a vehicle when confronted by an employee, then attacked the worker and threatened others with a pickaxe before fleeing. Officers located and arrested him a short time later. Ndadyo is now facing aggravated assault charges.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that Huron contractor Julio Morales-Ortiz has been sentenced for defrauding seven customers out of more than $36,000. Morales-Ortiz pleaded guilty in Beadle County Circuit Court to theft by deception, receiving a suspended 10-year prison sentence, probation, and jail time.

A Lincoln County judge is weighing whether to dismiss a murder charge under South Dakota’s “stand your ground” law. Timothy Overton of Tea claims he shot contractor Isaiah Morales in self-defense during a June confrontation at his home. Prosecutors allege Overton attacked Morales with brass knuckles before firing the fatal shot, while the defense argues he was assaulted first. Testimony in the case resumes today in Canton.
A 65-year-old Mitchell man, Curtis Buchholz Sr., is facing serious felony charges after multiple juveniles accused him of sexual abuse spanning several years. Arrested in late August, Buchholz pleaded not guilty to three counts of sexual contact with a child under 16, each carrying a potential 15-year prison sentence. The first report surfaced in 2023, with additional victims later coming forward. His trial is scheduled for December, where he could face up to 45 years in prison if convicted.
