A man is dead and two individuals are in custody following a fatal stabbing on the Pine Ridge Reservation. According to the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, officers discovered the victim with a stab wound on a porch around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Former State Worker Sentenced for Failing to Report Fraud at SD Department of Revenue

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced the sentencing of Danielle Degenstein (also known as Deegan-Steen), a former Department of Revenue employee, for failing to report a coworker’s fraud. Degenstein pleaded guilty to Misprision of a Felony—a misdemeanor charge—and received one year of unsupervised probation, a $500 fine, and court costs.

Twenty Young Women Compete for Miss South Dakota Title May 29-31

The 78th annual Miss South Dakota competition returns to Brookings from May 29–31, bringing together 20 accomplished young women from across the state to compete in talent, fitness, public speaking, and stage presence. South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that Danielle Degenstein, 52, of Pierre, has been sentenced on a misdemeanor charge of Misprison of a Felony for failing to report a coworker’s criminal activity. Degenstein pleaded guilty in Hughes County Circuit Court and received a suspended jail sentence, one year of unsupervised probation, and a $500 fine.
