
South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden has extended an executive order aimed at addressing fuel shortages impacting South Dakota and the Midwest.

The Mitchell City Council will convene today at 6 p.m. to address a range of key issues, including a proposed state prison in Davison County, supported by a local developer for its potential to create 400 new jobs.

Mitchell voters will cast their ballots tomorrow to elect two members to the Mitchell Board of Education. Voting takes place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Davison County Fairgrounds.

Miss Rapid City, Payton Steffensen, and Miss Brookings, Emily Deinken—both of Sioux Falls—earned preliminary awards at the Miss South Dakota competition Thursday night. Steffensen, a dancer and educator, received the $500 Health and Fitness Award. Deinken, a middle school music teacher and master’s student at Florida State University, won the $1,000 Talent Award for her performance of the Carmen Flute Fantasie from Habanera.

Lincoln County officials are voicing their stance on potential sites for a new state prison, emphasizing that any proposed facility must align with the county’s comprehensive development plan. The unanimous decision came during a recent commission meeting following a request from the Lieutenant Governor’s office and extensive public input.

The deadline is today for South Dakota Housing’s Grants for Grads program, which helps recent college graduates purchase their first home. Launched in May 2024, the program offers up to five percent of the loan amount as a down payment for eligible applicants who graduated within the past five years.
