The Mitchell boys’ tennis team produced one singles’ champion, but settled for fourth place as a team at the Class A state tournament Tuesday in Sioux Falls.

Eighth grader Luke Jerke defeated Sioux Falls Christian senior Gavin Miller 6-2, 6-3 to win the Flight 6 singles final.

As a team, Mitchell finished in fourth place with 339 points after starting day two in third place. Sioux Falls Christian was the team champion with 450 points, while Yankton finished well behind in second place at 378.5 points.

Mitchell’s lone doubles’ finalists were Drake Jerke and Cameron Miller in Flight 3, who fell to Yankton’s Zach Briggs and Harrison Kajewski 6-3, 4-6, 10-2.
