Arleen Mayer, 85, of Mitchell, SD, died Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Avera Brady Assisted Living Center in Mitchell. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, June 21, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. A visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Arleen Marjere Mayer was born May 6, 1936 to Gustave “Joe” and Martha (Hoffman) Flemmer in Parkston, SD. Arleen grew up on a farm near Parkston and attended school in Parkston.
On May 1, 1957 Arleen was united in marriage to Edmund “Ed” Mayer. To this union five children were born, and Arleen’s proudest job in life was taking care of her five children. In December of 1972 Arleen and Ed moved their family to Ohio, and remained there until moving back home to South Dakota in October of 1991.
Arleen loved traveling, and was always ready in a moment’s notice for a last minute trip. She also enjoyed playing Bingo. Above all, she loved spending quality time with her family and friends.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge in Mitchell.
Arleen is survived by her husband, Edmund; sons, Darrell of Westerville, OH, David of Columbus, OH, Glen of Reynoldsburg, OH, and Timothy (Peggy) of Deming, NM; daughter, Charlene (Sidney) Scott of Lewis Center, OH; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Calvin.
