MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Mitchell’s first roundabout is scheduled to open to traffic immediately following a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, Oct. 30, Mayor Jordan Hanson announced in a social media post.
The ceremony begins at 4 p.m. at West 23rd Avenue and North Ohlman Street. The event announcement features the city of Mitchell and Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce.
The opening marks a milestone for the project, which began in May after the intersection closed for construction. By August, crews had poured concrete and the roundabout had begun taking shape.
Asphalt paving, painted road markings and sidewalk construction had brought the project closer to completion earlier this month. At that time, an official reopening date had not been announced.
Hanson’s announcement now gives motorists a reopening timeline, with traffic expected to begin using the roundabout immediately after Friday’s ceremony.
