The Mitchell Post 18 baseball team lost on the road on Tuesday, July 6, to Yankton Post 12 by a 9-3 final.
Yankton jumped out to an 9-0 lead in the first five innings. Mitchell scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, trying to mount a comeback. Yankton’s Drew Ryken pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and two earned runs. He walked two batters and struck out seven.
Ty Neugebauer got the start for Mitchell and lasted three innings for Post 18. Neugebauer gave up seven hits and four earned runs. He walked two batters and struck out three.
Jonah Schmidt went 1-for-3 with a double and RBI. Brock Sparks recorded the only other extra-base hit for Mitchell — also a double — in his only at bat.
Mitchell Post 18 is back at home today at 6 p.m. to take on the Gillette Roughriders (AA-WY). Mitchell previously lost 3-2 to Gillette on June 5. Gillette scored on a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh to take victory.
