In District 5B, Mount Vernon defeated Platte 6-5 last night to qualify for the state tournament. Spencer Neugebauer made a leaping catch over the center field fence to rob Platte of a two-run walk-off homer which ended the game.  Briggs Havlik got the win pitching five innings of relief and he also went 4-for-4 at the plate.

Alexandria scored 11 runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Parkston 19-4 to punch their ticket to the state tournament.  Tyson Gau  recorded 9-strikeouts to get the win and also drove in five runs.  Parkston and Platte meet tonight for the final District 5B spot.  Meanwhile, Dimock-Emery and Winner-Colome play for the District title at 8pm.

In District 3B,  the Plankinton Bankers won the title with a 5-2 over South Central.  Kimball-White Lake and Miller-Wessington play for the final District 3-B state tournament spot tonight.

In District 4B, Canova qualified for the state tournament with a 10-2 win over Lennox.

The state amateur tournament will begin Aug. 4 at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. Following the completion of all district tournament games, the state bracket will be revealed on a live selection show at 2 p.m. on Sunday on sportsticketlive.com.
