The final field of eight is set at the South Dakota State Class B Amateur Baseball tournament. Last night, Kimball-White Lake defeated Redfield 9-4 — and the Salem Cubs fell 13-1 to Winner/Colome.

Zak Wallner pitched a complete game on 173 pitches for Kimball White Lake with 10 strikeouts. Wallner also batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored. This was the second complete game outing on the mound for Wallner in the state tournament.

Dylanger Pierson hammered a two-run home run in the top of the ninth for the Nationals to extend Kimball-White Lake’s lead to 9-4.

For Winner/Colome, Connor Hopkins struck out 11 batters and walked just one in a complete-game win to send the Pheasants to the quarterfinals. Winner Colome led 5-1 after seven innings, and scored eight more in the ninth to shut the door on Salem’s season.

Winner/Colome and Kimball-White Lake play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday for a spot in Saturday’s semifinal round.

Tonight is the first set of quarterfinals games with Dimock-Emery taking on Plankinton at 5:30 p.m. and Flandreau vs. Alexandria to follow.
