Yvonne died Saturday, August 14th in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 18 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Tuesday at the church with a prayer service and rosary at 7.
Yvonne Ann (Murphy) Poncelet, daughter of John and Theresa (Hoffman) Murphy was born October 28, 1934, near Arlington. She attended country school near Arlington and then graduated from St. Agatha High School in Howard. Yvonne attended Presentation Collee in Aberdeen, earning an RN degree from nursing school. Upon graduation, she started working at the Lake Preston Hospital. Yvonne married Leo Poncelet on June 6, 1956, and they made their home in Howard where they raised their six children.
Yvonne worked the night shift at the Howard Good Samaritan Society until she retired in June of 1999. She was a member of the St. Agatha Catholic Church and was involved with the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, cross stitching, working in the garden, and spending time with the grandkids.
Survivors include her 6 children, John (Arlene) of Pierre, Joe (Rose) of Gering, NE, Kathy of Sioux Falls, Teresa (Harvey Freeman) of Sioux Falls, Tony (Rachel) of Spirit Lake, IA, Betty (Dean Sadler) of Mitchell; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo; two brothers, Leo and Joe; one sister, Veronica Murphy; and son-in-law Rod Bushman.
Arrangements are with the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard.
