The Mitchell City Council approved a resolution and an agreement regarding the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo. The city was approached by the rodeo to find a location to possibly hold future rodeo events. The city would lease a portion of property at Airport Road north of Mitchell to the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo. Before formal discussions begin about the potential lease, the city and the rodeo had to agree to an indemnification agreement. The Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo is currently involved in a lawsuit with its rodeo grounds landlord, Horsemen’s Sports Incorporated. The rodeo alleges that Horsemen’s Sports destroyed and damaged Corn Palace Stampede’s property. The indemnification agreement would hold the city harmless from the current lawsuit.
