The Mitchell City Council last night approved a second medical cannabis dispensary in the city of Mitchell. The city has made five licenses available to applicants. Approved was Kansas City’s BWD Mitchell, LLC, doing business as BesaMe Wellness.
“Their proposed location is 1400 South Burr, which is the current Runnings building that they’ll be leaving to go across the street,” said City Attorney Justin Johnson. “The dispensary would be located in the top left portion of that building.”
Johnson added that BWD met all the requirements for security, signage, and odor control.
Three other applications were tabled due to zoning issues in the city’s ordinance regarding medical cannabis dispensaries.
Mitchell’s DLJ, LLC’s proposed location on Juniper Street would be too close to the BesaMe Wellness dispensary.
The proposed location for Genesis Farms, LLC, of Sioux Falls on West 5th and Main Street in downtown Mitchell would be too close to two churches.
Flandreau’s FSST Pharms, LLC, doing business as Native Nations Cannabis, proposed their dispensary be located on South Burr Street. That would be too close to the BesaMe Wellness dispensary and Mitchell Technical College.
The three applicants whose applications were tabled will be required to get variances which need approval from the Mitchell Planning and Zoning Commission.
The council last month approved the first medical cannabis dispensary – Washington’s Superior Buds, which will be located in a strip mall on East Spruce Street near Walmart.
