A Mitchell police officer has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. Early Saturday morning, Justin Maas was stopped in a personal vehicle by the South Dakota Highway Patrol and subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. At the time of the arrest Maas was off duty. Officer Maas has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation which may result in disciplinary action. While the Mitchell Police Department may be involved in conducting this internal investigation, the Mitchell Police Department has had no involvement with the arrest or criminal investigation led by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. Any decision regarding the criminal charges will be made by the Davison County States Attorney.
