A Mitchell man involved in a robbery in Mitchell last summer where one person was shot was sentenced on Tuesday. 24-year old Ransom White Lance was sentenced to 10 years in prison on an aggravated assault charge. Additionally, White Lance was sentenced to 5 years in prison on a possession of a controlled substance charge. The two sentences will run concurrently. White Lance took a female hostage and robbed her at gunpoint at a residence on the 200 block of North Edmunds in June of 2021. As White Lance took the female from the house, another person arrived home from work. The female escaped after White Lance shot the person arriving home from work. White Lance fled the scene. He was found about an hour later inside his residence on North Rowley Street. A gun and the items stolen in the robbery were found, as was methamphetamine. White Lance was on parole at the time of the incident. Any additional time imposed by the South Dakota Department of Corrections for the parole violation will run consecutively to the 10 year sentence imposed on Tuesday.
