A winter weather advisory takes effect for much of the region at 6 PM on Monday. The advisory will remain in effect until 6 PM Tuesday.
Samantha Trellinger of the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says the winter weather will move into the area late Monday afternoon. It will ramp up Monday night and into Tuesday. Snowfall total is expected to be 2-4 inches with this system. Winds will be out of the north at 25-35 MPH at times causing blowing and drifting and reduced visibilities. Temperatures will drop into the single digits during the day and well below zero at night. Wind chill temps will be -20 to -30 at times.
If you must travel during this winter storm, be sure to have a winter survival kit in your vehicle in case you are stranded. Also be sure to have a charged cell phone.
