Members of the South Dakota House Select Committee on Investigation will meet again when legislators return to Pierre for veto day on March 28th, and their report will be turned over to the full House. The committee has been considering the impeachment of Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg for his conduct following the crash that killed Joe Boever west of Highmore in September of 2020.

District 20 Representative Lance Koth says he has heard that the committee will likely make no recommendation.  He says it is “unfortunate.  The intent and the purpose of this yearlong committee was to dive into and dig deep into all of the evidence and draw a conclusion.  It doesn’t appear that’s going to happen.”

If the House votes for impeachment, the Senate would then act as the jury. Senator Josh Klumb says too much information has been released for senators to remain completely impartial.  He says the issue should not be in the media, there should be due process, and the amount of talk it’s been getting is unfortunate for the process to maintain fair and impartial jury status.

Representative Koth says the matter should have been settled by now, and the biggest thing feeding the frenzy is the time it’s taken to complete the process.

The full House will vote on impeachment on April 12th.
