Over nearly a two-hour period, severe storms rolled through our area on Tuesday evening dumping rain and hail ranging in size from half dollars to golf balls to baseballs. Thunderstorm warning were issued for several counties in our region. Here in Mitchell, some pea-sized hail fell briefly. The storms also brought winds of 60 miles an hour. There were online reports of structure and vehicle damage. Kyle Weisser with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says they have not received many damage reports yet.
A tornado was allegedly spotted about 20 miles west of Parker just after 6:30 last night. Weisser says they are still working to confirm that.
For anyone interested in weather and storms, a weather spotter class is scheduled for tonight at 7 PM at Mitchell Technical College. It is open to the public.
