June 2, 2022, Brookings, SD – Miss Sioux Falls, Margaret Samp of Sioux Falls, and Miss Rapid City, Carly Goodhart of Sisseton, took home preliminary awards at the Miss South Dakota Competition Thursday night.
Samp won the preliminary talent competition singing the contemporary opera selection “Time To Say Goodbye,” first recorded by Andre Bocelli. The talent award is a $1,000 scholarship. Samp is attending Augustana University, studying government and music.
Goodhart took the Social Impact Pitch award, a $500 scholarship, after presenting her social impact initiative: “Woman Up: Upping the Education and Access to Women’s Health.” Goodhart is a nursing graduate from South Dakota State University, works as a neonatal intensive care nurse in Sioux Falls, and is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Nursing.
The competition continues today at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center at South Dakota State University, with another round of preliminary competition this afternoon at 2:00. Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen 2022 will be crowned at the conclusion of today’s competition. The finals for Miss South Dakota are Saturday night.
