As the temperature begins to drop for fall and winter, health officials are expecting COVID-19 cases to ramp up once again as people move indoors. Dr. Hilary Rockwell, Chief Medical Officer of Avera Queen of Peace, says they are better equipped to handle any surge in numbers, saying “we definitely have a better grasp on how to handle it” She added that they have vaccines available and treatment options available. Rockwell says they are still seeing hospitalizations, but it hasn’t been a significant number of really sick people.
She says there are still precautions people should take, such as getting vaccinations and boosters. She says if you self-test positive for COVID-19, you should let your doctor know so treatments can be administered.
COVID-19 numbers have been steadily trending downward since the end of August.
