The Mitchell City Council meets at 6 PM at City Hall in downtown Mitchell. Tonight’s agenda includes consideration of an application for the demolition of buildings at 116 and 118 East 1st Avenue. The buildings are deteriorating, and there are public safety concerns about them including falling bricks and tiles. The owner of the buildings believes they have been compromised due to the razing of an adjacent building to the east after it was hit by a motorist. The overall stability of the buildings is also a concern, as another adjacent property to the west is scheduled to be torn down in the future. If the demolition is approved, the lot will be used for future development.
The council will also hear second reading on an ordinance updating the City of Mitchell comprehensive plan and will receive an update by Barr Engineering on the Lake Mitchell project.
Tonight’s Mitchell City Council meeting is open to the public. It will also be streamed online and televised locally. The agenda can be found here: https://mitchellsd.portal.civicclerk.com/event/1079/files.
