The Mitchell City Council last night approved a $1 million grant for a new recycling transfer station. Mitchell Mayor Bob Everson says the city plans on consolidating its recycling facilities. The current recycling area is at the old city dump. Recycled materials are taken there, sorted, and taken to Sioux Falls. The new $2.7 million facility will be located at the south landfill. Everson says it will increase efficiency and save some costs as well. The current recycling building will be used for other city resources. The new recycling facility is expected to be finished in fall 2024.
