The Davison County Commission on Tuesday gave the green light for construction of a new building at the Davison County Fairgrounds.  The 4,000 square-foot metal building will be located near the southeast corner of the property.  It will be built by the low bidder, Plankinton Lumber, for just over $294,000.  The county will be responsible for constructing the office and inside of the building.  Those materials will cost $10,000-$12,000.

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department will rent space in the building from the county.  The GFP had rented office space from the county for years but stopped in 2021 in part due to space issues.  The contract with the state would be for 10 years with penalties for the first 5.  If the GFP only rents the space for a year, they will still pay 80 percent of the rental cost after one year, 60 percent after two years, with similar prorating done for those first 5 years.  That will cover the county for almost the entire cost of the building.

The work is to be done this fall.  It is hoped that construction will be done by early November so that Game Fish and Parks would be able to move in December 1st 2023.
