The Mitchell City Council approved awarding the bid for the Firesteel Creek Ducks Unlimited project at Monday’s meeting. Public Works Director Joe Schroeder told the council that 10 bids were received for the project.  The lowest bid was submitted by Whiskeyboard Construction at nearly $584,000.  Schroeder added that the project is under budget.

The 35-acre wetland will be built on the former Kelley property about 2 miles west of Lake Mitchell. It is hoped that the wetland will reduce the phosphorus and sediment that flows into the lake.

Construction is expected to begin in about a year with completion slated for November 2024.
