The Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office has released the names of six Mitchell Post 18 baseball players charged with rape after an alleged sexual assault that occurred at a tournament in Rapid City in June. 18-year-old Hudson Haley, 19-year-old Landon Waddell, 17-year-old Peyton Mandel, 18-year-old Lincoln Bates, 17-year-old Carter Miller and 17-year-old Karter Sibson each face second-degree rape charges and aiding and abetting second-degree rape for their roles in the alleged assault. Haley and Waddell face additional counts because their charges involve two separate victims. Second-degree rape is defined by South Dakota law as sexual penetration of any person through the use of force, coercion or threats of immediate and great bodily harm accompanied by apparent power of execution. Each charge is punishable by a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison. Three juveniles also face charges in the case. Charges are under consideration for adults who allegedly had knowledge of the crimes and did not report them to authorities. The Mitchell baseball team’s season was initially suspended, briefly reinstated, and then terminated last month as a result of the allegations and investigation.
