MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELL NOW) Water will be a major topic at tonight’s Mitchell City Council meeting. The council will meet for a work session at 5:30 for a 2023 year-end financial overview. Lake dredging funding will be discussed at the work session.
The regular council meeting will follow the work session. One agenda item is whether to use $4.6 million in capital project reserves for the lake dredging project. Using that money would reduce the amount borrowed for the project to just over $20 million. Increased sales tax revenue could also reduce the city’s loan amount. Mitchell voters on June 4th will decide whether the city can pursue the loan through the State Revolving Loan Fund.
Also on tonight’s Mitchell City Council agenda is action to approve a secondary water supply agreement with Randall Community Water District. The proposed project states that the city will receive up to 5 million gallons per day of additional potable water. Cost to the city is estimated to be $78 million funded through a 30-year loan at 1.875 percent interest.
Tonight’s work session begins at 5:30 at City Hall with the council meeting scheduled for 6 PM. The meetings are open to the public and are streamed on the City of Mitchell’s YouTube channel.
