Clara Gertrude Dewald passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Grace Reformed Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service Friday, February 23, 2024 at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell, SD.
Clara was born October 22, 1924 on a farm in rural Bridgewater, SD to Christoph and Christina (Koerner) Reimann. She was baptized as an infant in First Lutheran Church in Bridgewater at the age of two years. She became a member of Hope Reformed Church of rural Emery, SD. Clara attended Bridgewater rural school through the 8th grade. Clara stayed home to help on the farm and help care for her sister. On March 13, 1947 she married Edgar Dewald of rural Alexanderia, SD. They farmed for three years in the Spencer, SD and Salem, SD area then moved to rural Alexandria where they farmed for 32 years. The couple then retired and moved to Mitchell, SD in 1982.
Clara was a member of the Grace Reformed Church, she sang in the church choir for many years, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Mitchell, and the James Valley Community Center.
Clara is survived by two sons; Richard (Lavonne) Dewald, Lyle (Dorothy) Dewald. Seven grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar (2000), parents, brother, Ruben Reimann, sister, Esther Reimann, a great grandchild, her in- laws, Sam and Emma Dewald, brother in-law, Marvin Dewald and sister in-law Sadie Reimann.
