MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Our recent rains have been welcome news for most South Dakota ag producers.  The most recent measurements of topsoil in South Dakota finds that 68% are adequate with 1% in surplus while 27% are short.  Subsoil levels are in a similar condition with 62% reported as adequate 3% in surplus and 29% short of moisture.

Thus far, 56% of the state’s winter wheat crop is in good condition with 1% rated as excellent and 36% fair.  Spring wheat planting is approximately 23% finished and is 10% ahead of the South Dakota five year average.
