REDFIELD, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Ava McMahan, a fifth-grade student from the Redfield School District, has been announced as the winner of the 2024 South Dakota Arbor Day Poster Contest.  McMahan’s poster was chosen out of over 700 entries in this year’s contest.

The theme this year is “Trees in Television”.  For her winning entry, Ava McMahan will receive a $125 cash prize and have her poster featured on the poster contest promotional flyer and she will also receive a certificate of achievement.  The teachers who guided her through this endeavor, Rachel Meyer and Cassadra Bottum, will receive $175 for the purchase of educational supplies.

Paulus Waldner of Hillcrest Colony School in Garden City was the second-place winner and receives $100 cash and a certificate of achievement.  In third place was Ruth Oumba Ngoma of Frontier Elementary in Tea.  She receives $75 cash and a certificate of achievement.
