VERMILLION S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The South Dakota Special Olympics opening ceremony kicked off Thursday night (May 16,2024) at the University of South Dakota.  The opening ceremony was all about recognizing the Special Olympians  and wishing them good luck for their competitions over the next two days.

Events begin on Friday with powerlifting and continue through Saturday when track and field events will close the competition.

In other USD sports news, Jacy Pulse a USD senior track star is vying to qualify for the United States Olympic team.  She’ll compete first in the 400 meter hurdles at the NCAA championships, which will be held next week.  Last year, Pulse was 10th in the nation in hurdling.

Her qualifying time in the 400 hurdles 56.17 seconds.  Pulse’s Olympic trials will be held on June 17 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
