PIERRE S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) There are $10 million in grants available for South Dakota’s small regional airports.  Grant applications are due by June 10 in Pierre at the South Dakota Department of Transportation.  Final decisions on which airports get grants and how much those awards are, will be announced in mid to late July.

The successful grant application will show continuing federal support for the airport of two or more years prior to the application for the grant.  Airports that have been unsuccessful in achieving federal funding beyond entitlement funding will go to the bottom of the pile for consideration.  Projects being suggested for funding cannot require more than 60% state funding.

The $10 million need not be spent in its entirety in this fiscal year.  The Department of Transportation indicated that the speed of funds disbursement will depend on the number and quality of grant proposals the Department receives from airports.
