PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) South Dakota lawmakers are looking for a way to protect children from the dangers of AI and internet predators.  Attorney General Marty Jackley says, among other things, age restrictions are needed on many websites.  The committee will work to create a package of proposals for the Legislature to consider next year.

The committee is looking into all aspects of Artificial Intelligence.

State Education Secretary Dr. Joseph Graves testified that cell phones and social media are creating huge problems for students and teachers in the classroom.  Graves said that already, smart phones and social media are creating problems for students and teachers.

Dakota State University President, Dr. Jose Marie Griffiths says A-I can be a crutch for students, replacing effort and creativity in assignments and learning.  She also said using A-I to create deep fakes to influence people into making bad decisions has been a growing problem for more than a decade.
