SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Juvenile crime is on the rise in Sioux Falls and it’s more violent. Captain Josh Phillips of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s office says deputies witnessed a gun being fired from a car following an assault. That started a pursuit, which ended at 22nd and Willow when the suspect vehicle collided with a pickup. A 17-year-old and two 19-year-olds were arrested on weapons and vehicle theft charges. Officials are still searching for 22-year-old Karissa Becker of Sioux Falls, who fled the scene. There were no serious injuries in the shooting or the accident.
Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead says, unfortunately, that incident fits into an all-to-familiar pattern. He says juvenile crime is becoming more gun related, violent and involves more gang activity than it did in the past.
Sheriff Milstead says a gun involved in this latest incident was found just blocks away from where the accident and arrests took place. The serial numbers were filed off, indicating the gun was probably stolen.
