MADISON, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Executive Director Troy Larson says the Bureau of Reclamation has announced another extra round of funding for the project.  The project received an initial grant for fiscal 2024 of $7 million and now the Bureau of Reclamation has given the Lewis and Clark Water System another $10 million as a part of the bipartisan American Rescue Plan Act passed by Congress.  With the extra money, Lewis & Clark has now received a total of 152.5-million dollars over the past three fiscal years.  That’s pushing the construction schedule ahead by about ten years.

It feels a bit like an early Christmas, that’s the response of Troy Larson, executive director of the Lewis & Clark Rural Water system.  The money allows Lewis & Clark to get water to Madison, South Dakota and Sibley and Sheldon, Iowa a decade sooner than anticipated.

Madison, South Dakota should be connected to the system by the end of July.  Sibley, Iowa should be online by the end of this year.
