HAYTI, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A two-vehicle collision on Thursday June 17, 2024, sent one person to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on the eastern edge of Hayti near 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 27th, 2024. A construction pick-up truck turning left from a South Dakota Department of Transportation driveway onto SD Highway 21 collided with a westbound car. The impact spun both vehicles before they came to a rest.

According to authorities, neither the driver nor any passengers were wearing seatbelts. One passenger in the pick-up truck was transported by Lake Norden Ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The Hayti Fire Department assisted with scene cleanup alongside BES Towing of Lake Norden. The highway was reduced to a single lane while crews removed debris and vehicles. The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
