Derek Graesser allowed just two runs on five hits and a walk in nine innings, including 7.2 innings of no-hit baseball before it was broken up on a Cameron Deinert single. The Pheasants struck for two runs on a Chandler Bakely fielder’s choice in the second inning and another three runs on back-to-back singles by Dillon Lambley and Austin Richey in the sixth.

The Mustangs Deric Denning slowed down a high-powered Winner/Colome offense, Mount Vernon’s starting pitcher Deric Denning was able to keep the Mustangs in it, stymying the Pheasants to just seven hits. For Winner/Colome, Harter tallied a double, triple, and a walk, Richey drove in two runs on a hit and a walk, Lambley drove in a run on one hit, Bakely drove in a run on a walk, while Drew DeMers, Dylan Soulek (Parkston Rays pick-up player), and Austin Calhoon each tallied hits in the win.

For Mount Vernon, Denning allowed five runs on seven hits and four walks in eight innings, striking out six. Deric Denning drove in a run on one hit, while Chase Hetland, Bradley Dean, Schmidt, and Deinert each tallied hits in the loss. Winner/Colome advances to the quarterfinal round of the State B tournament, and will face Garretson on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Garretson Blue Jays make quick work of the Ponys Hills team Four Corners last night winning by the final of 12 to 4 to move on to the quarterfinals. Robin Chute batted 4-for-5 to lead Garretson in hits, Nick Bonte collected three hits, Trey Buckneberg drove in two runs on two hits, Scott Splett and Vanhove each drove in a run on a hit and a walk, while Dylan Kindt tacked on a three-RBI single in the win.

For Four Corners, Stout surrendered seven runs on six hits and four walks in 5.2 innings, striking out seven. Brad Hand, Sam Hand, and Andrew McCloud each drove in a run on one hit, including a triple by Sam Hand, while Andrew Coverdale tallied two hits and an RBI in the loss. Garretson will face Winner/Colome at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Class B quarterfinals. The Bluejays and Pheasants, albeit from different parts of the state, have locked horns in recent state tournaments and will face each other again on Friday.

The State B Baseball Tournament saw a great matchup Tuesday night as Pony Hills League 3 B District champion was battling the defending State B champions who advanced to the quarterfinals after a 9-6 victory over the Pony Hills League champion Kimball/White Lake Nationals Tuesday night at Cadwell Park.

And it didn’t take long for Canova to pick-up where they left off in round one, plating three runs in the top of the first inning with a Jason Miller RBI-single and a Kendall Gassman two-RBI single as well on Kimball/White Lake’s Ethan Price.

Canova tallied 16 total hits in the win, including seven different players tallying multiple hits. KWL was able to get on the board in the fifth on a Jonny Lyons RBI-single but was quickly matched in the seventh on an error by third baseman Dylanger Pierson to make it 9-1 going into the last half inning.

The second game last night was a bit of a blowout as the Del Rapids PBR knocked out the Milbank Fire Chiefs by the final of 13 to 3. The biggest reason for the win was Madison pick-up player Heith Williams drove in four runs, Trey Randel struck out 10 batters and Dell Rapids PBR will face a familiar foe in the Class B quarterfinals.

Heith Williams finished 2-for-5 and drove in four runs. Drew Sweeter recorded three hits and three RBI. Brayden Pankonen finished 4-for-4 and knocked in three runs. Brayden Pankonen also struck out two batters in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Dell Rapids PBR will play Canova at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the Class B quarterfinals.

The best men’s and women’s golfers in South Dakota were in Rapid City this past weekend at beautiful Meadowbrook Golf Course for the 2024 SDGA Amateur Championship as Kevin Gillick of Rapid City is the Men’s Champion and Reese Jansa of Sioux Falls is the Women’s Championship. It is the first SDGA Championship for Kevin and the 11th for Reese Jansa.

The DWU men’s Elite Basketball Camp is on Saturday August 17TH and are for boys’ basketball players who will learn basic to advanced technique that feature progressive drills that will improve an individual’s game so they will be more skilled at the high school level. The camp instructors are the DWU men’s basketball coaches and players. The boys’ basketball camps are designed for instruction and coaching in and will be given in small groups to help campers master the skills that are covered. The DWU boys’ basketball camps are for boys entering the 9th grade through 12th grade. Check-in time is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday’s schedule is 10 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The DWU boys’ elite basketball camp is $40 per camper. The DWU basketball camps are being taught at the Avera Sports Complex.
