MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Dr. Joe Childs, Superintendent of the Mitchell Public Schools, reminds citizens that school is back in session.  That means students of all sizes and ages will be on the streets walking to school.  Other students will be behind the wheel driving to school as will many parents.  Dr. Childs advises people to be vigilant while driving and to look out for children who don’t always look out for themselves when walking or crossing the street.

Dr. Childs points out that education is the rare business where the customers all arrive at about the same time and leave together as well.  He suggests patience and starting a bit earlier to avoid a time crush or to allow for delays in unloading and loading students at school.

Motorists are required by law to stop for school buses that are loading and unloading.  To pass a school bus in the process of accepting or discharging riders is against the law and will result in a fine and may cause a tragedy.  Don’t be in a hurry and have a safe start to school.
