MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Due to the record floods in June, twenty-five South Dakota counties qualified for federal disaster relief for public infrastructure – roads, bridges, culverts etc.  Four South Dakota counties (Davison, Lincoln, Turner and Union) qualified for individual relief.

Citizens still have about a month to apply for FEMA assistance.  Those who believe they may qualify for federal disaster reimbursement should download the FEMA app, visit disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362 for more information.

As of today (August 30, 2024) 177 claims in Davison County have been resolved leading to $610,937 in federal reimbursement.  In Lincoln County, 187 claims have been paid $657,293.  Turner County has seen 53 residents receive $173, 448 and in Union County, which was the hardest hit by the flooding, 230 claimants have been compensated with $2,322,451.

A FEMA disaster relief office will be set up in Davison County in the near future.
