MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) At a City Council budget work session, the topic of replacing the lights at the Cadwell Park complex was discussed.  Many of the poles at Cadwell are rotting and splitting.  The main Cadwell facility was built fifty years ago and is showing its age.  Bulbs for the current lights are becoming scarce.  The Parks and Rec department suggested replacing the poles and lights at Cadwell.  First, because the poles need replacing and second, bulbs are soon to be nonexistent for the current fixtures and LED lights would, perhaps, save the City money on their electric bills out at Cadwell.

The cost of the replacement is $1.2 million.  The City currently has $456,000 set aside for the project.  Parks and Rec Director Kevin Nelson found a grant that would pay 50% of the replacement costs.  That means the City would have to come up with an additional $169,000.  As it was a work session, no final decisions were made but the City Council seemed amenable to going ahead with the project and the additional required funding.
