Mitchell Kernels
Boys golf began state tournament action yesterday in Watertown at the Watertown Municipal Cattail Golf Course and the competition was high. Some day one results include a trio of athletes inside the Top 50 of 108 individual competitors. With Carter McCormick tied for 49th with a score seven over par, Marshall Widstrom tied for 42nd with a score of six over par and Asher Dannenbring tied for 26th with a score of four over par. As a team, the Kernels finish day one in sole possession of ninth place out of 18 total schools. Action continues this morning at 9am.
Playoff soccer action begins today for the Kernels! The girls are the No. 12 seed in the Class AA State Tournament and will take No. 5 seed Sioux Falls Washington. They will be playing in Sioux Falls Washington High School beginning at 7pm. The boys enter as the No. 14 seed and will also be playing today. They will be facing the No. 3 seed Sioux Falls Jefferson at Sioux Falls Jefferson High School at 7pm.
Dakota Wesleyan
The men’s and women’ golf teams will hit the course this morning. They’ll compete in The Mustang Derby at Morningside University. Both the men and the women will tee off at 8am. This is a two-day event, and they will tee off at the same location & time tomorrow as well.
After having the first couple of days of the week off, the Tiger soccer teams are set to play again tomorrow. They’ll be at home at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex here in Mitchell. Each team will face Waldorf with the women playing first at 5pm and then the men at 7:30pm.
WNBA
Game 5 is set for tonight in the WNBA Semifinals to see who will face the No. 1 seed New York Liberty for the WNBA Championship. The No. 3 seed Connecticut Sun will go back on the road to take on the No. 2 seed Minnesota Lynx in Minneapolis at 7pm on ESPN2.
NFL
Monday Night Football went down last night, and the Kansas City Chiefs showed why they were undefeated coming into the game. They simply just find ways to win games. They possessed the ball for nearly 40 min of game action and held the New Orleans Saints rushing attack to under 50 yards. With an early lead and kicker Harrison Butker making four of his five field goal attempts, the Chiefs were able to hold off the Saints, 26-13.
MLB
The American League had their Game 2’s yesterday. Like the National League, both series are now tied at 1-1. The No. 6 seed Detroit Tigers held the No. 2 seed Cleveland Guardians to no runs in this game and just a few hits. Winning it 3-0. The No. 5 seed Kansas City Royals evened things up as well and doubled up the No. 1 seed New York Yankees. All the Royals runs were scored in the fourth inning and held together defensively to pull out the 4-2 win and even the series. NL games pick up again today for Game 3 beginning with the No. 6 seed New York Mets and No. 2 seed Philadelphia Phillies at 4:08pm. Then it will be the No. 4 seed San Diego Padres and No. 1 seed Los Angeles Dodgers starting at 8:08pm. Both games will be on FS1.
