Mitchell Kernels

Girls tennis has been competing in the Class AA state and tournament competition continued today for day two! They have been competing at Sioux Park in Rapid City. After the first day of action at the Parkview and Sioux Park Tennis Courts, the Kernels sit fifth in the team standings with 226 points. They’re led by No. 2 seed Carsyn Weich in Flight 2. Mitchell is still in the running for singles championships in four of the six singles flights.

Kernel volleyball action picks back up today. They will travel to take on Rapid City Central at Rapid City Central High School. It’ll start with the JV at 5:30pm, followed by the sophomores at 6:30pm and then varsity at 8pm (7pm MT).

The varsity is back home against this week at Joe Quintal Field hosting Brandon Valley. It is Senior Night so make sure you show up, show out and support your Kernels! The pregame with Drew Ivery on Pure Oldies 103.5 will begin at 6:40pm and kickoff is set for 7pm.

Dakota Wesleyan

Volleyball is set to return to action tonight. They’re dealt with injuries and some sickness as of late but will look to power through. The Tigers will be taking on Hastings on the road in Nebraska. First serve is set for 7:30pm at Lynn Farrell Arena.

Soccer will be part of another doubleheader tomorrow when they travel to Nebraska to take on Doane. A battle of the Tigers is what it will be. They’ll be in Crete, NE for this game and playing on Papik Field. The women will begin at 3pm and the men will follow at 5:15pm.

Tiger football, fresh off their first win, will welcome Doane to town tomorrow. It’ll be a Battle of the Tigers! It’ll be DWU’s first home football game in nearly a month. The pregame with Rod Pattison will be at 12:35pm and kickoff is set for 1pm at Joe Quintal Field here in Mitchell.

WNBA

The No. 2 seed Minnesota Lynx took on the No. 1 seed New York Liberty in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals last night. It was a thrilling game with a hectic ending, especially if you’re a Lynx fan. Minnesota managed to force overtime and ended up coming away with the win, 95-93. The Liberty led the entire game and by as many as 18, but the Lynx had a tremendous comeback victory. New York is now 0-6 in Game 1’s all-time in the WNBA Finals. Game 2 will take place on Sunday.

MLB

A pair of Game 4’s went down last night in the American League. First it was the No. 6 seed Detroit Tigers against the No. 2 seed Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians refused to go away! They managed to squeak past the Tigers for a 5-4 victory. The win forces a pivotal Game 5 that will be played tomorrow. The other game was between the No. 5 seed Kansas City Royals and No. 1 seed New York Yankees. New York ended up putting to bed the Royals hopes of forcing a Game 5 and pulled out the W. They won 3-1 and advanced to the division series.

NFL

The Seattle Seahawks and San Franciso 49ers put on a show last night on Prime Video. Not a super high scoring game, but one with plenty of excitement. George Kittle managed to find the end zone for a fifth straight game, twice last night, to help propel the 49ers to a much-needed win. They came out on top of Seattle, 36-24.
