Area Sports

Last night was filled with playoff football action from around the area! Here are some final scores from the action: In Class 11B No. 4 seed Elk Point-Jefferson took down No. 5 seed Clark/Willow Lake, 41-8, then No. 2 seed Winner shut-out No. 10 seed Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central, 44-0 and No. 3 seed Mt. Vernon/Plankinton was upset by No. 11 seed St. Thomas More, 38-34. In Class 9AA No. 1 seed Parkston took care of business against No. 8 seed Leola/Frederick Area, 40-6 and No. 3 seed Elkton-Lake Benton defeated No. 11 Hanson, 46-21. In Class 9B it was No. 1 seed Avon being upset by No. 8 seed Canistota, 16-8 and then No. 4 seed Corsica-Stickney was sent packing by No. 5 seed Sully Buttes, who won it 36-6.

Dakota Wesleyan

A weekend full of games in store for Tiger basketball. Both teams will be in action over the weekend. It’s a pair of games for our No. 9 ranked Women’s Basketball team. They will open their season tonight on the road in Bartlesville, Oklahoma against the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles in the Mueller Sports Center with tipoff at 6pm. Then the women pick things back up on Saturday evening when they slide over to Wichita, Kansas to take on the Friends Falcons in the Garvey Center beginning at 5:30pm. Then it’s the men’s turn to retake the court as they tip off just before the women do. They’ll be taking on the Saint Mary Spires in Leavenworth, Kansas with tipoff at 5pm.

Volleyball will have their next match and last road game of the year tomorrow. They’ll be on the road to Sioux City, Iowa to play against the Morningside Mustangs in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center at 5pm.

Tiger football will put wheels to pavement today when they travel to face new GPAC foe, the Waldorf Warriors. Tomorrow they will be in Forest City, Iowa taking on a Warriors team in search of their first win. DWU looks to end a small skid of their own and keep Waldorf winless this season. The pregame will be at 12:35pm and kickoff is set for 1pm.

NBA

A little less than a handful of games last night in the NBA with a couple on NBATV. The Milwaukee Bucks were beat by the Memphis Grizzlies 122-99, then the San Antonio Spurs took care of the Utah Jazz with a 106-88 win. Followed by the Houston Rockets taking on the Dallas Mavericks and coming out on top 108-102, then the final game of the night was the Phoenix Suns on the road against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Clippers took command early, but Phoenix ended up coming away with a 125-119 win.

NFL

Another battle took place last night for Thursday Night Football on Prime Video between the New York Jets and Houston Texans. The Texans struggled to score points, and the Jets claimed the win at home, 21-13. Coming up on Sunday, along with the other games on the NFL slate, it’ll be your Minnesota Vikings will be playing in Primetime on NBC/Peacock. They’ll be playing the Indianapolis Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium beginning at 7:20pm.
