Gov. Noem announces 3rd Judicial Circuit Court appointment

PIERRE, S.D.  (MITCHELLNOW) – Governor Kristi Noem announced the appointment of Abigail (Abbey) Howard to the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court.

Howard grew up in Volga and attended South Dakota State University graduating Magna Cum Laude. She received her Juris Doctorate from the University of South Dakota, Knudson School of Law where she was an editor of the South Dakota Law Review.

She began her law practice in Brookings and joined the Brookings County States Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor in 2013. In 2016, Howard was elected as the Brookings County States Attorney.

In 2018, she was appointed to serve as a Magistrate Judge in the Third Judicial Circuit where she handled court in Brookings, Beadle, Codington, Lake, and Moody Counties.
