December Economic Report Out
Our regional economy is giving us a bit of a roller coaster ride. Creighton University’s monthly Rural Mainstreet Index went from positive in November to negative this month. Economist Dr. Ernie Goss says the numbers were affected by the election.
Goss says low farm commodity prices are the main problem. The Index shows below market growth for the eleventh time in the past twelve months. Land prices are down as are farm equipment sales. Farm equipment sales have been down for seventeen straight months, that’s according to Creighton University’s monthly Rural Mainstreet Index-which includes a ten-state survey of small community bank executives.
Goss says one in five bankers in the survey expect a recession in 2025.
