MITCHELL, S.D.  (MITCHELLNOW) While the figures are not yet complete and official for the year of 2024, it looks like the Corn Palace will not need an infusion of cash from the general fund for the first time in decades, that’s according to Mitchell Mayor Jordan Hanson.

The Corn Palace deficit has been reduced by $200,000 plus dollars on the strength of tighter management, a successful Corn Palace Festival and concerts, special events and increased concession sales spurred, in part, by opening a second concession stand during busy events.

Mayor Jordan Hanson is hopeful that the Corn Palace can be made to be self-sustaining financially.  That will be one of the challenges for new Corn Palace Director Dave Sietsma.
