South Dakota lawmakers continue their push for answers from the Department of Revenue as they work against employee fraud. The Government Operations and Audit Committee issued subpoenas in October to require testimony from department officials, but those subpoenas have stalled in court after the department challenged them. Now, committee member Senator David Wheeler is asking for a new set of more focused subpoenas. VERBATIM: “This is the process that we have to go through to make sure we are at least continuing to move forward on the investigation and ensuring that we, as a legislature, are doing our appropriate oversight duties.”  This comes after four employees from the Department of Revenue faced fraud charges in recent months, with one of them passing away before charges could be filed.
