MITCHELL, S.D.  (MITCHELLNOW) The South Dakota Department of Corrections is  providing an update on a prisoner who escaped back in 2017. Jeremiah Stands failed to return to the Rapid City Minimum Center after he was out on work release in July of 2017. Yesterday, the DOC announced that Stands passed away on January 3rd, in Valentine, Nebraska.  His cause of his death has not yet been released.
