The Kernel boys and girls wrestling teams will each have state tournament competition today and tomorrow. They’ll compete at the Monument in Rapid City, SD.

The Kernel basketball teams return home for their final game of the regular season. It’ll be Senior Night tomorrow in the World’s Only Corn Palace. The subvarsity game will get rolling at 3:30pm & 4:45pm for the boys and the girls. Varsity girls will tipoff at 6pm and the boys will start at 7:30pm. Senior acknowledgement for the boys will occur with five minutes left during their warmups and the girls will be acknowledged during halftime of the boys game.

Dakota Wesleyan

The Tiger basketball teams kicked off Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament action last night. The No. 13 ranked women hosted the 7 seed Doane Tigers in the Corn Palace, and they were tested. It came down to the final minutes of the game and DWU pulled it out, 79-71. They advance to the semifinals of the GPAC tournament to face 3 seed Briar Cliff on Saturday at 3pm. Additionally, guard Rylee Rosenquist eclipsed 1,000 career points in the game. The five seeded men were on the road taking on the four seed Morningside Mustangs. The Mustangs shot lights out in the game and the Tigers were unable to match that level of shot-making. They fell on the road, 91-74. The men are eliminated from the tournament and await their fate to see if they make the National Tournament. The selection show will be on March 6.

South Dakota State

The Jackrabbit men’s and women’s basketball teams will return to the court tonight. The women will remain home in Brookings, SD at the First Bank & Trust Arena to face Denver at 7pm. The men are on the road taking on Oral Roberts in Tulsa, OK at 7pm.

WNBA

Diana Taurasi, the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer, a six-time Olympic gold medalist and a three-time WNBA champion, is stepping away from the game of basketball and into retirement. After 20 seasons, she recently announced her retirement on Tuesday afternoon in Time Magazine, telling the outlet that she realized on New Year’s Day “it was time to walk away.” Taurasi said, “Mentally and physically, I’m just full. That’s probably the best way I can describe it. I’m full and I’m happy.” Taurasi is a guaranteed first-ballot Hall of Famer and leaves behind a legacy as one of the greatest women to have ever played the game of basketball.

NBA

The NBA will have just two Nationally televised games tonight with the first being the Denver Nuggets at the Milwaukee Bucks at 7pm on TNT/TruTV/MAX. Followed by the Minnesota Timberwolves visiting the Los Angeles Lakers at 9:30pm on NBATV.
