MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The roar of engines returns to the South Dakota State Fairgrounds this weekend as MX at the DEX kicks off its second season earlier than last year.

The indoor motocross series begins Saturday, Dec. 20, inside the DEX facility. Promoter Tom Glanzer says word continues to spread about the unique winter racing opportunity in Mitchell.

Glanzer said the DEX has proven to be an ideal venue for indoor motocross, calling it one of the top facilities within a 700-mile radius for winter racing.

“If I built this building for motocross, I’d build it the exact same way,” Glanzer said, adding the facility allows multiple types of events while still being perfectly suited for racing.

Saturday’s event will feature a wide range of competitors, from young beginners to experienced riders.

“You’ll see anywhere from kids four years old to guys over 40, over 50, and even some over 60,” Glanzer said. “You’ll have pros, high school kids, 7- and 8-year-olds on 65s, and four-year-olds on 50s just learning and rolling the hills.”

Glanzer said fans can expect fast-paced racing with little downtime and a high-energy atmosphere throughout the event.

“It’s a very impressive show,” he said. “It’s pretty quick, it’s fast, and there’s not much downtime.”

Looking ahead, Glanzer said the series will expand this season with the addition of a Junior Showdown event scheduled for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
