MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Davison County commissioners have adopted spring road weight limits, voting to impose a six-ton-per-axle restriction on county oil roads effective Feb. 25.

Commissioners cited seasonal road conditions as the reason for the temporary limits, which are typically used in late winter and early spring as roads soften during thaw cycles.

The county’s order includes exemptions for certain major routes, allowing heavier traffic to continue on designated roads. Commissioners also said South Dakota Highway Patrol Motor Carrier officers will assist with enforcement.

Drivers and companies moving heavy loads are encouraged to plan routes accordingly and watch for posted restrictions and county notices.
