As I was driving into work this morning, I did what I always do—I glanced over at the beauty of Lake Mitchell on my way into town. But today, the view came with a surprise.

What looked peaceful at first quickly turned into something unforgettable. I couldn’t help myself—I pulled off to the side of the road to take it all in, grabbing a few photos and videos. A mother and her young daughter had stopped too, along with a friendly neighbor, all of us drawn in by the same incredible sight.

As we stood there snapping pictures, it happened.

All of a sudden, the sky filled—and then they were right over us.

Thousands of snow geese, flying in unison, their calls echoing loudly overhead. It was impossible not to stop and stare. The sound alone was breathtaking, a rush of energy and life that seemed to surround us completely.

Looking back, I’m pretty sure I was standing there with my mouth wide open, staring straight up at the sky like a kid seeing it for the first time.  Things could’ve changed for the worse there, rather quickly.

Moments like that don’t come around every day. And on an ordinary drive into work, it turned into something pretty extraordinary. When mother nature calls, take the opportunity and listen.

Safe to say… today’s shaping up to be a lucky one in more ways than one.

Watch as thousands of snow geese take flight over Lake Mitchell, filling the sky with sound and motion in an unforgettable moment.
